On the Importance of Inks and other Issues

In 1789 a crowd of Parisians stormed the Bastille to the cry of ‘Liberte’, Fraternite’, Egalite’". No need for a college graduate with a major in French to translate the slogan into ‘Liberty, Fraternity and Equality’.

Our slogan is as easy and simple to remember,
‘Quality, Service, Value’.

Quality. It Starts With The Inks

The word ‘ink’ derives from the Latin (and Greek) ‘enkaustum’. This was the purple ink used by Roman and Byzantine Emperors for their signature. ‘Enkaustum’, in turn, derives from the Greek word ‘enkaien’, meaning ‘to burn in’ and, by inference, to leave a permanent mark. Spelling aside, the word filtered into English in the 13th century. So we find in ‘Maidan Maregrete’ (the history of St. Margaret), "So boc is writen wid enke" (this book is written with ink). And in "Cursor of the World", a Northumbrian poem of the 14th century we find: "Ne writer mai write wit inc" (you do not need to be a writer to use ink).

Ink jet ink radically differs from any other ink. It is an emulsion and emulsions require an accurate and stable balance among all components. Though you can measure quality in more than one way, ink jet refilling quality starts with the inks.

Our inks comply with the strictest possible quality standards applicable in the industry.

An example? In the ever fiercer battle to conquer customers truth often goes by the wayside. Some of you may have watched the television ad about the "Universal inkjet refill system". A pretty lady appears in a turtle neck so tight that it makes you wish you were the turtle. She then proceeds to say that the kit they offer is ‘universal’.

The idea is that most people who will order will find out later and at their expense that ‘universality’ was but a flashing (and false) mirror.

Which goes to prove the truth embodied in Shakespeare’s lines,

"All that glisters is not gold
Often have you heard that told"
(Merchant of Venice)

On the other hand, our inks are formulated specifically and accurately for the printer cartridge they will re-fill.

We classify inks into (3) categories. For each category the emulsion is, as we said, formulated to equal the specifications of a particular printer cartridge ink.

The three categories are:

  • Dye based ink jet ink
  • Pigment Based ink jet ink
  • Water Resistant ink jet ink

Dye based inks are used in many cartridges. What changes among them is the viscosity, hue, color temperature, stabilizing agents etc. Following the manufacturer’s specifications we have a large number of dye based inks for HP, Epson, Canon, Lexmark, Brother, Compaq, Xerox etc.

Pigment inks are used in some black cartridges and offer a little greater resistance to humidity. And we have different pigment based inks for cartridges of different manufacturers, as above. Most notably, most HP and Lexmark black ink cartridges (particularly the current models) use a pigment-based black inkjet ink, though their color inks typically remain dye-based. Only a small number of desktop inkjet printer models from Epson use pigmented inks for all the ink colors.

Our water resistant inks contain a proprietary chemical compound that makes the ink significantly more water resistant than the standard dye-based ink. For more information on water resistant ink please call us at 800 547 3303 or email cfi@cfriends.com.

In summary, quality cartridge recharging requires a flawless fit between the chemistry of the ink and the cartridge for which the ink is formulated. We give you the flawless fit.

Service

90% of the skill required to refill a cartridge consists of filling a dispenser (syringe) with ink and deliver the ink slowly to the cartridge(s) via the appropriate fill holes.

The remaining 10% is learning how to avoid and eliminate air bubbles. An air bubble acts like a road block preventing the ink to travel any further. Some cartridges rely on a moderate vacuum for their operation. All this is explained in our easy to read instructions. If what we have written so far makes sense to you, you will make sense of our instructions.

But all of us think and work slightly differently and users may have questions. When they do, they should be able to reach a voice, not a voice-mail, and pose their question. We give you the voice and the answer.

Value.

We give you absolutely accurate inks, we give you service, we give you excellent value for money. In our lists you will find the MINIMUM number of refills you get with each specific JetMaster kit. In practice you get about 20% more than what we specify. Your kit is re-usable and if you print in good volume we offer bulk inks which reduce the cost to a most enjoyable minimum.

In conclusion, we do not rely on pizazz, deceptive truths (i.e. lies) and inappropriate cost cutting to sell our products. On the contrary, much of our business comes from referrals. It is in OUR interest, as well as YOURS, to make of you a long term and satisfied customer.
